Why AI?

Artificial intelligence and the autonomous systems that embed it have become the brains of the modern data economy. As such, they have started to reshape human values, trust, and power around the world. Whether in medicine, money, or love, technologies powered by forms of artificial intelligence are playing an increasingly prominent role in our lives. New AI technologies can drive cars, treat damaged brains and nudge workers to be more productive, but they also can threaten, manipulate, and alienate us from others. We need to understand its potentials as well as threats and address them to design AI systems and a digital economy that is truly human-centered.

Why Hamburg?

Few AI champions are to be found in Germany’s traditional economy. A nascent but vibrant AI ecosystem is emerging in Hamburg. Like the city itself, Hamburg’s AI ecosystem is hanseatic and hence oriented towards the global economy. This is evident in the ecosystem’s focus on logistics as well as the fact that Hamburg as well as Schleswig Holstein are increasingly becoming the bridgehead of growing transatlantic AI partnerships. What is emerging is therefore a reason for hope and an impetus to further develop both the city’s and the country’s AI ecosystems. This is all the more important as both sides of the Atlantic face critical post-pandemic uncertainties for national economic development and therefore increasingly see AI as a policy priority to address these uncertainties.

Our Mission

In line with the vision of AI.HAMBURG to promote the knowledge and broad application of artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning, in companies for the benefit of the economy at large, the AI.SUMMIT pursues the following objectives:
