Sebastian Löwe is Professor of Design Management at the Berlin Mediadesign Hochschule. He teaches, researches and consults on topics in strategic design and innovation, with a focus on machine learning and design.
Designing for Emotion AI or Affective Computing presents designers with special challenges. There is no set of rules they can follow when defining design parameters. Even though emotion detection algorithms have become widespread, their targeted use in design is still uncharted territory.
Between what triggers the positive, as well as negative emotions and what should happen in terms of design, there are not so much equals signs as question marks. The lecture deals with the question of what happens when design reacts to emotions and moods in real time, what effects this has on design and what traditions in design it breaks with.
